VISTA and office 2007

[RantMode="on"]

Finally got fed up of VISTA and OFFICE 2007. Last saturday morning it took me 23 very frustrating minutes to underspend my laptop revive outlook 2007, and print off a 1 page email. Surly there has to be a better way.. and no I don't mean switching to either my LINUX/ or iMAC systems (both have their own problems).

No the issue s broader than that, none of the systems today (mac/windows or Linux) have the ability to understand that what I want is more important than what they want. By that I mean I have 30 seconds to grab and print an email before heading off .. what I don't want is every application under the sun to decide that now is a good time to start downloading updates/crashing and uploading dumps or simple deciding that now is great time to reorg my disk.

No I simple want a reliable (100% would be a good start) system that "understands" that my time is more valuable than it's and the act of simple putting up an hour glass while it waits for yet another update to acrobat54 or AVG 19 or asking me about archiving my emails is not acceptable.

Its now time for technologists to take a back seat and to let the people "I believe they are called interaction designers" who understand what none techies want, design systems that

1) Don't waste my time, nor make me feel stupid
2) Are reliable, safe to use and consistent in the way they treat me (the old "works first time, on time every time" seems to fit here)
3) Make sense in the way I see and interact with the world (e.g. get rid of hierarchical filing systems!)
4) Help me to understand and be in control of whats going on

Surely not too much to ask ... maybe this will become the 5th generation computing or the age of enlightenment ... when people realised that to be of use technology has to become a natural fit with those who use it. Simple shipping any old stuff simple wont do any more
